I'm always popping over to Flea Market Trixie's place (the girl has it going on!) and today I saw where she's offering a beautiful burlap pillow as a free giveaway! Finding Fabulous obviously has a weekly celebration to promote such giveaways so today I stopped everything and took the photos above so I could enter by sharing one of my "totally fabulous diy projects."
A few months ago, our local Michael's Craft Store had a "relocation sale." They opened their doors on a Saturday to the public in hopes of getting rid of rundown display items..like baskets, shelves, misc pieces..you get the picture.
Well my sister-in-law and I couldn't get there fast enough and we bought everything we came across that looked as if in some way could be used one day. The above pictures show what we did with one such item..a once-ugly-and-unfinished display "paint shelf." It was one of several that sat stacked on the floor..looking tired and dusty. The tag on top read $25. I snapped up only one, thinking because my husband is a hobbyist woodworker he could hang it in his workshop and use it for something.
Anyway..once I got my shelf and the remainder of my goodies home, Robert took a look at my loot and seemed to be taking a particular interest in the dingy unfinished shelf, and I proceeded to tell him why I had gotten it.
He said thanks and went about his business. But then within a few days I heard him banging away in his shop. Didn't think much of it until a few days went by and one Sunday morning he walked in our kitchen and seemed to be taking measurements of some variety on the long (and at the time empty) wall next to the refrigerator.
Ladies..to my surprise, next thing I knew, my sweet man was drilling holes and attaching this beautiful rack to my bare kitchen walls. I didn't have a clue what I would use this thing for..but once it was up, it just seemed perfect for spices.
Okay..total overall cost for this project was about $50. The initial expense the day of the sale, and subsequent costs of white and blue paint thereafter.
My apologies for not having a before photo. If that disqualifies me from this promotion, that's really okay. I think sharing great finds like this is what you're supposed to do anyway. It makes me feel good knowing it could help someone down the road. So keep your eyes open for little bargains like this..you just never know how they can serve you in the end. Blessings, love, joy and sunshine to all, Terri
