Sentiments Of A Southern Artist: "Figurative Painting"

Every now and again someone comes into your life that from the very start, you just know somehow they're extraordinarily special.

That's precisely how I felt when Mixed-Media Artist, Kelly Berkey entered my cyber world.

Some of you might already know SWEET KELLY from her lovely Blog and Etsy Shop.  With happiness, tenderness, and expressive style she creates delightful canvases and jewelry pieces.

I personally just had to have one her Soldered Necklaces with "Artist" imprinted within.

This is one of Kelly's Newest Designs.  The inscription means "Beautiful You," in Hawaiian.  Lovely, isn't it?

Recently on Kelly's blog she began a"Stretching To Sketch Challenge".  I believe this is Week #3. Anyhoo, to livin things up Kelly posted several photographs of herself in which she offered as incentive for participants.

These are just two that I particularly favored.  And although I haven't officially entered her challenge..something just kept whispering to me that maybe I should pull out my oils and head to my easel.

This is my first effort at Figurative Realism in quite some time.  It's a 9X12 Oil on Linen.  Now as you can see, my rendering isn't precisely as the photograph read..but it's the way my eyes and heart chose to see this Beautiful Woman.

Love & Hugs To Anyone Who May Have Visited Today!

Hi Terri Sweetie...
Oh how beautiful this piece is. You can sure twang the canvas with your brushes. How beautiful, and ofcourse I love it that she is at the ocean, I can see the breeze blowing on her whisps of hair and I can hear the sea gulls calling over head, heck I can even hear the tide rushing in and out. So beautiful sweet friend so beautiful.

You have SO many wonderful gifts of talent. I so enjoy coming to see what you are up to. Today I have no energy and have spent most of the day in bed. I am just to tired to go. A friend came by yesterday, I have not entertained anyone since my illness, I have not been accepted well in the work field or just everyday life, so was really afraid for anyone to hear me talk. Julie ofcourse loved me just the way I am. She said she thought I talked like a stroke victim, I really strain to push out the voice sounds. I am so exhausted today. It has done me in.

Hope you are well sweet friend and that your precious Moma is keeping you busy. She is such a love, and when she in the studio she makes you so happy. I know that you create beautifully with her about. I was thinking how, you toddled around her feet growing up, and now she toddles around your feet in older life. Isn't it lovely how our lives circle back around?

Well sweetie, I love your photo and your post is exquisite as always.

Many hugs and so much love, I miss you, Sherry

I'm so touched by your beautiful post. I feel the same way about you my dear southern friend.

Your painting of me is so beautiful and I'm honored that you were drawn to paint one of my photos It's gorgeous and it's me! I squealed with delight when I saw your rendition of me and as you know I'm so moved by figurative oil painting. Oh, how I'd love to spend my days at your easel, just watching you paint and learning! Some day my friend I too will be able to do this, I just know it.

Thank you so much for your inspiration and encouragement over the past year. You are truly an amazing artist and I'm jumping for joy that I will have and Artist Terri Smith original!!! MUAH to you, you have made my week!

I know Kelly is over the moon with this piece - it really is incredible. What a talented lady you are. I've also just been looking at all your posts this week on the artists. I got very excited! Especially liked the work of Liebke, although the water colour of the lady ironing really touche me. It reminded me of my Grandmother. Nice to meet you here.
